Produced
by Mustilli
Sant' Agata dei Goti DOC
The wine is made from 100% Falanghina. The vineyards for
this wine are located on the Santa Croce Hill and have
only been growing there for 25 years. Interestingly, the
vines are "pre-phylloxera", that is, they are
not grafted onto American rootstocks like almost all other
wine-producing vines. The wine is produced entirely in
stainless steel without undergoing malo-lactic fermentation.
Tasting
Notes
The wine has a straw-like color and is nearly star bright.
The nose gives hints of melon, flowers, and a touch of
almonds. This is a dry wine with good, but not bracing
acidity. Light in weight, like many Campanian whites,
the palate feels elegant with a certain minerality. Properly
balanced, this wine is a fine example of Falanghina's
potential. A good accompaniment to seafood, shellfish,
as well as light cheeses.
Campania Wine Fact
In the ancient world, Campania was home to some of the
most renowned wines of Italy. Such wines as Surrentine,
Calenian, Massic, and most famously Falernium, were sought
out by all who knew and loved wine. Over the years (thousands)
much changed, unfortunately, not always for the better.
Today there is a decided re-emergence of Campania as an
important wine producing region. With wines such as Taurasi
leading the way, along with Falernium - now known as Falerno
del Massico.
