Costa d'Amalfi DOC
This wine from Italy's Amalfi Coast is made from Piedirosso
and Aglianico grapes. It ferments for over thirty days
before being placed in French oak barrels to complete
malolactic fermentation. The wine then ages for one year
in new French oak and an additional year in bottle.
Tasting
Notes
The wine's color and clarity are a rich ruby ink. The
nose gives off hints of blackberries, currants and a
tinge of vanilla. This is a dry wine with good balancing
acidity and soft tannins that coat your mouth. The dark
fruits of aglianico give way to piedirosso's strong black
cherry palate. This wine is a good match for lighter
meats prepared with a touch of spice or an herbal rub.
Campania Wine Fact
The DOC zone Costa d'Amalfi was created in 1995, designated
for wines that can only come from vineyards enjoying
good exposure in the territory of Amalfi and twelve other
communes in the province of Salerno. The wines can carry
the names of one of the three sub-zones (Furore, Ravello,
Tramonti) provided all of the grapes come from those
zones.
