"We
sit at home sometimes and talk about how it was such an amazing

are craving to return."

Day One
Getting Acquainted with Amalfi
Upon your arrival in Naples we will provide a private transfer to the Hotel Santa Caterina in Amalfi Village, one of the legendary deluxe hotels of the Amalfi Coast. You will have time to unpack, relax, and marvel at the spectacular view from your hotel room.
In the early evening we will have a wonderful walking tour of Amalfi. This complex little village has deep roots in the history and culture of Italy. In its heyday Amalfi was a major sea power, one of Italy's 4 ancient maritime republics along with Pisa, Genoa, and Venice, and with a reach that stretched throughout the Mediterranean. Amalfi was a great prize for the Saracen and Norman invaders and these influences are reflected in its architecture, food, and language.
Amalfi has a special charm that will surely seduce you.
Day Two
Amalfi and Positano, History and Culture
This morning we delve more deeply into the culture and history. Included will be a visit to the monumental Cathedral of Sant' Andrea and its Cloister of Paradise. Followed by a tour of Amalfi's unique Papermill Museum, the last of a multitude of watermills that once comprised the earliest center in Western Europe for making handmade paper from cloth.
After a wonderful lunch we will go by boat to Positano, the romantic, pastel-colored village whose cliff-hanging structures cascade down through steep terraces to the sea. Dinner tonight is in the village of Praiano at a friendly family-owned favorite of the locals.
Day Three
Cooking with Mamma
This morning we have a cooking class with a lady known as Mamma Agata. She will immerse you in this region's fabulous flavors and age-old cooking techniques using fresh, seasonal ingredients from her vast gardens. By the time the enormous lunch is over you will be begging Mamma to adopt you.
In the afternoon we will visit the charming village of Ravello and have a tour of the main Cathedral, a walk through the famous formal gardens of the Villa Cimbrone, and stop in to one of the premier ceramic factories on the Coast.
Dinner on your own this evening.
Day Four
Pompeii, Vietri, and the eastern Coastline
This morning we have an exhilarating tour of the ruins of Pompeii. Followed by a visit to the town of Vietri, one of the great centers of ceramic artistry in Italy.
We visit a factory founded in the mid 19th century, then let you browse among the many colorful shops. On the return to Amalfi we will pass through the interesting villages of the Eastern end of the Coast, including Cetara, Maiori, Minori, and Atrani - giving you a comprehensive view of this magnificent region.
Day Five
Island of Capri, Sorrentine Peninsula
Today we cruise to the island of Capri. Over the centuries Capri has attained celebrity status for the "glitterati" that have touched down on its shores from ancient times to the present. Capri is also a multi-faceted place of history, landscapes, interesting walks and hikes, and yes, shopping.
We will have a guided tour of Capri's significant sites, lunch, and then free time to wander the picturesque paths and the famous shops, or to enjoy a cappuccino in the Piazzetta. In the late afternoon we will take the hydrofoil to Sorrento and board a minibus for a panoramic drive around the unspoiled tip of the Sorrentine Peninsula. We hope to catch a glimpse of the sunset over Capri, a sight of transcendent beauty.
Day Six
The Wine between the Mountains
A few short miles behind the ruggedly beautiful coastline is a quiet world of traditional country homesteads situated amongst vine-covered hills. This is Tramonti. Here we will visit one of the oldest family-owned wineries in the region, tour the vineyards, and enjoy a private lunch with the winemaker. We, at Amalfi Life, cannot imagine a more perfect setting through which to impart the authentic local life. It's that simple.
Day Seven
Valley of the Old Mills
An authentic experience of the Amalfi Coast is incomplete without a country walk! This morning we will take a walk down through the mountains along a well-loved trail known as the Valle dei Mulini, the Valley of the Mills. You'll notice we said "down". This lovely woods-walk is well worth the effort and only requires a sturdy pair of sneakers. The trail has a pleasantly remote feeling even though it is only a mile and a half from the village center, following the river of Amalfi as it twists and turns past the remnants of the old mills of Amalfi's illustrious paper-making past. Our walk ends at the Limoncello factory at the top of the Village, and we enjoy a tour and lemon-infused lunch with the "king of lemons". Free time and then a Gala Farewell Dinner.
